From February 27 to March 22, 2026, 16 first-year students from School of Medicine participated in the Medical English Training Program at the National University of Waikato (Hamilton, New Zealand). The purpose of this training program is to develop global medical professionals with an international perspective. In addition to practical training in English, the participating students learned a lot through medical lectures, cross-cultural understanding, and exchanges with local students.

During the three-week program, the students took general English classes at the University of Waikato and joined a variety of activities, including a campus tour, visits to Waikato Hospital, the largest hospital in Hamilton, and a fertility clinic in Tauranga, English lectures on medical topics, and cross-cultural exchange through homestays. In particular, the small-group, discussion-based classes encouraged active participation and significantly contributed to improving their English communication skills.

Kanazawa University will continue to enhance its overseas training programs that make the most of each school’s academic strengths within the bachelor’s curriculum, and will further promote the development of highly skilled individuals with the knowledge and abilities to succeed internationally.
